Air Quality In Galena Park

According to the U.S. Climate Vulnerability Index, Galena Park is in the 99th percentile for national vulnerability related to the environmental and socioeconomic burdens of climate change. Factories and oil refineries surround the neighborhood, releasing contaminants that pollute the environment and cause long-term health concerns like cancer and heart disease.

Towards a Brighter Future

Access to air quality monitoring is helping to shift the narrative and bring these injustices to light. Pollution from industrial processes and transportation in Galena Park is nearly eight times the annual guideline set by the World Health Organization. Fortunately, ECAGP is working with residents to build awareness and action towards a healthier and safer future for everyone.

  • Air Monitor Network: Stay informed with real-time air quality updates from monitors and learn how you can contribute to cleaner air in our community.
  • Alert Notification System: In partnership with the Galena Park Local Emergency Planning Committee, residents will be alerted of environmental emergencies, such as high emissions events.

What Can You Do?

Check the Air Quality Index (AQI) number and color on your weather app frequently. Green and yellow mean the air is safe, orange and red suggest limiting outdoor activity—especially for sensitive groups—and purple or maroon mean it’s best for everyone to stay indoors. See the flyer below for more info.
